Messenger Bag
Captain America Inspired
Created June 2016
This messenger bag was 100% custom and created start to finish in a little over one year. I had the idea while bored in class and decided to sketch the bag I was imagining (seen in the gallery below). Over the process of that year, the bag went through a multiple step planning process including the use of CAD software to plot the pattern, print the pattern full size, and mock assembly. Once the design was dialed in, the final assembly had started. At the time, it was one of the most challenging sewing projects I had taken on. I was simultaneously working on this bag and the second version of my Captain America Suit which proved to be very helpful. Issues and barriers of each project taught me several different ways to handle multiple problems.
The bag contained many features for the ease of use in everyday life. The back featured a passthrough for secure attachment to a rolling bag handle, several hidden pockets on the back and inside, a themed cup holder/side pouch, comic print lining, and a modular inner pocket system for changing the setup and functionality of the inside. The star accent and back shield bracket were designed on the computer and 3D printed to be sewn into the design.
